Single Tied Expansion Joint

Single tied expansion joints consist of a single bellow with tie rods.  The main advantage of having a single tied expansion joint is to overcome the reaction forces and spring rates, as these loads will be compensated within the bellow and therefore will not transfer to the pipe line.  This kind of expansion joint will mainly absorb axial movements – small amounts of lateral movements can also be absorbed if only two tie rods are used with spherical washers or dome washers.

Types of single tied expansion joints:

  • Single tied expansion joint with flanges

  • Single tied expansion joint with pipe ends
